In short: patio sliders, front doors and French pairs are swapped for impact-rated doors made to fit each Boca Raton opening and installed under permit. Planning figures: about $3,800–$7,500 for a two-panel slider, $3,000–$6,500 for one entry door, and $5,500–$9,500 for a French pair, all installed.

Impact sliding glass doors

In most Boca homes the slider is the biggest piece of glass in the house, and it nearly always faces the pool, the lake or the golf course. Older aluminum sliders were never meant to take a direct storm. The rollers flatten, the track clogs with sand and leaves, and water comes over the sill when rain blows sideways across the lanai.

Laminated panels are much heavier than the old tempered ones, so the roller quality and a perfectly level, sealed sill decide whether the door glides or grinds. We check that each panel moves with one hand and adjust the locks so the door pulls tight against the weatherstripping when it is closed.

Picking a configuration

  • Two panels, one fixed and one moving, for most openings up to about eight feet.
  • Three or four panels where the family room opens wide to the lanai.
  • Pocketing and corner sliders that disappear into the wall or open a whole corner to the pool deck. They involve more structural work and are priced on site.

Impact resistance is only half of a door's label; the other half is how much positive and negative pressure it can take. An oceanfront unit high on A1A needs a bigger number than a ground-floor lake view in West Boca, so we size the rating to the floor and the exposure.

Impact front doors and French doors

A storm-rated front door combines a stiffened slab, laminated glazing in every lite, and a jamb fastened into the wall to its approval. Around Boca most owners pick fiberglass, which shrugs off the humidity and can be painted or stained to look like wood. Locking points at head, center and sill draw the slab into its weatherstrip so it seals and holds.

Boca's Mediterranean and Spanish-style homes often have tall double entries with an arched transom. Those are built as custom units so the shape stays the same while the protection changes.

French doors are a pair of hinged leaves, usually opening onto a patio or courtyard. The fixed leaf bolts into the head and sill and the active leaf locks to it, so the meeting stile is where good hardware matters most. We specify multi-point locking on both leaves of every impact pair.

Sidelights, transoms and the forgotten door

Narrow glass panels flanking an entry, and the fanlight above it, belong to the same assembly; we replace them together so the whole entrance is covered by a single approval. We also list the house door inside the garage and any glazed utility door, because a wind mitigation inspector counts them and a missing one can cost you the credit.

Door figures here are rough guides, not quotes. Width, number of panels, glazing, locks and finish all shift them. Every range sits in the cost guide, and after the measure each door gets its own line on your quote.

Impact door questions

What does an impact sliding glass door cost in Boca Raton?

As an estimate, a standard two-panel impact slider runs about $3,800–$7,500 installed. Three- and four-panel units, openings past about 12 feet, and corner or pocketing sliders run about $6,500–$13,000.

Inswing or outswing for a front door?

An outward-opening door is pushed against its stops by storm pressure, one reason so many Florida entries swing out. An inward-opening door suits a house with a step or tight porch right at the threshold. Impact-rated versions exist either way.

Can an impact door match the rest of the house?

Fiberglass slabs can be painted or stained, and many come with a woodgrain finish. Aluminum frames are usually white or bronze, with other colors to order. If your community fixes the door style, we price to that rule from the start.

Is the garage entry door included?

It should be. The door from the garage into the house is an opening like any other, and wind mitigation inspectors count it. We price it with the rest so nothing is left off.
